What You Need to Know About Eco Friendly Kitchen Materials

By Samantha L

As people become more health and environmentally conscious, they focus much of their time and attention on how to live healthy lives in mind, body, and spirit. But, what some may not realize is that mantra is something worth carrying over to your individual living space as well.

There are many ways to incorporate health and environment into your living space. Green cleaning and practicing feng shui are just two examples.  However, making certain that the materials in your home are eco-friendly is another wonderful way to help your health while helping the environment too.

Many times individuals want a simple change, or their homes need a bit of updating. The kitchen is often the hub of attention for most homeowners. Have you ever noticed that even though your home is amply suitable for many guests, those very same guests seem to congregate in your kitchen – even for an outdoor barbecue?

Well, that is one great reason to remodel your kitchen. And remodeling your kitchen with eco-friendly cabinet material is a great choice.  It has the benefit of being good for the environment and your health.

Out With The Old Kitchen Materials

Bamboo KitchenTraditional cabinetry has materials and chemicals that are harmful to both environment and personal health. Materials such as toxic glue and formaldehyde are the two main components of cabinetry that you need to watch out for when remodeling your kitchen.

And don’t think that this is a temporary problem that goes away in time. Years after cabinet installation, vapors from formaldehyde and toxic glue can seep into the air that you breathe. Typically, this is because formaldehyde and toxic glue are used as materials to piece together particle board.

There are better eco-friendly kitchen material choices.  These include:

  • Recycled wood
  • Wheatboard
  • Fiberboard
  • Bamboo
  • Lyptus

Recycled wood helps save future trees, while Wheatboard and Fiberboard do not use toxins. Wheatboard is made up of wheat staff, a perfect way to utilize nature and have a healthy kitchen to boot. Wheat staff does not emit toxic vapors over time like the formaldehyde emitted from particleboard and glue toxins.

Bamboo is just a wonderful all-natural alternative to anything as it utilizes the best of Mother Nature’s resources. Bamboo is attractive, sleek and natural in look, and is not harmful to your health.

Lyptus is a renewable wood that has a rich, elegant tone and texture.

There are many alternatives for creating that eco-friendly and healthy kitchen for yourself and your family. After all, isn’t the kitchen the place where health begins?
